Names of God: Phos

 

Last week we looked at the name, Xulon Zoe, in it we saw that Jesus is the Tree of Life and we saw this Tree of Life is the Cross of Christ.

Today we are looking at one of my very favorite names of Christ… and the more I study it… the deeper I dig into it… the more I expound upon it… the greater I come to love it and the One of whom it speaks of, my Jesus.

Today we will see that the Huios, that the Eschatos Adam, that the Xulon Zoe, is also the Phos.

 

In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.

The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
John 1:4-5

 

This is the message we have heard from Him

and announce to you,

that God is Light,

and in Him there is no darkness at all.

1 John 1:5

Phos is the Greek word for Light and it means light, anything emitting light, brightness. Metaphorically it is the extremely delicate, subtle, pure, brilliant quality of truth and its knowledge, together with the spiritual purity associated with it. It is that which is exposed to the view of all, openly, publicly. According to reason and the mind it the power of understanding especially moral and spiritual truth.

What we have learned about the light through science is that it travels in a straight line, dark rough surfaces absorb it, and bright smooth surfaces reflect it. What we have also learned is that the best reflector of light is a mirror…

As I thought of Jesus, our Phos, our Light… I thought of  how we can either absorb His light or we can reflect it. My mind then went to what I believe is an example of us absorbing His light… and remember that is dark and rough things that absorb light.

Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments and His ordinances and His statutes which I am commanding you today; otherwise, when you have eaten and are satisfied, and have built good houses and lived in them, and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and gold multiply, and all that you have multiplies, then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery
Deuteronomy 8:11-14

Know therefore today that it is the Lord your God who is crossing over before you as a consuming fire. He will destroy them and He will subdue them before you, so that you may drive them out and destroy them quickly, just as the Lord has spoken to you.
“Do not say in your heart when the Lord your God has driven them out before you, ‘Because of my righteousness the Lord has brought me in to possess this land,’ but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is dispossessing them before you. It is not for your righteousness or for the uprightness of your heart that you are going to possess their land, but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord your God is driving them out before you, in order to confirm the oath which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Deuteronomy 9:3-6

You see Jesus lets us know in Matthew 5: 45 that God causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. His light shines on all of us. And the more we know of His Light the more we are expected to reflect it…

God had given great Light to Israel. He had revealed much to them and He did so, that they might reflect Him to the other nations, to the world… but instead of reflecting Him, the nation absorbed Him, and then they began to actually think they didn’t need Him… and they did exactly what God warned them not to do in Deuteronomy. And the great city on the hill, the great light to the nations, became darker and darker and rougher and rougher.

When the Light, Jesus, stood before the nation of Israel in the flesh He said to them in Matthew 5:14-16You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

They were supposed to be shining their light, reflecting the light of God to the world, so that God would be glorified by all. When we choose to take the Light that we have had clearly revealed to us and absorb it and cover it we ourselves become dark and darker and so does the world around us.

Darkness absorbs light, but bright smooth surfaces reflect it.

The way of the righteous is smooth;

O Upright One, make the path of the righteous level.

Isaiah 26:7

 

A voice is calling, “ Clear the way for the LORD in the wilderness;

 Make smooth in the desert a highway for our God.

Isaiah 40:3

 

A mirror is the absolute best reflector of light… a mirror displays the image that it is reflecting… now think a moment… how did God create us?

God created man in His own image,

in the image of God He created him;

male and female He created them.

Genesis 1:27

God created this huge universe in all its splendor yet when He wanted something, that would best reflect Him… He created us.

Crazy! Right?

He created us that we might reflect His image to all creation… but man fell, sin came, and the image was distorted… the mirror was smeared and broken. There would never be another son of Adam who could rightly reflect the image of God, not another child of Adam on the earth that could light the way out of the darkness of sin…

Not until God would send Huios, the Eschatos Adam, our Xulon Zoe.

And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us,

and we saw His glory,

glory as of the only begotten from the Father,

full of grace and truth.

John 1:14

God sent the Phos into the world and this Phos was the life for us all… Jesus walked this earth as the example of the mirror image that you and I were created to display. He came as the exact representation of the very nature of God the very radiance of the glory of God (Hebrews 1:3).

And every one who see His Light and comes to His Light the veil of darkness is removed… when we look at ourselves in the mirror of the Word, in the very face of Christ, in the Light of the glory of God and we see how very marred we are and we cry out for more Light and we are received by the Light and this life enters us and that marred image… the Light begins to burn away and He begins to transform us into the image of the One we behold… Jesus.

But to this day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their heart; but whenever a person turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 3:15-18

And as we take this revealed Light and choose not to absorb it, but reflect it… we bring glory not to ourselves but to our God, our Creator, the One whose image we were created to reflect. And we preach not ourselves as the answer but as we are being transformed into the image of Christ, from glory to glory, then when others see our face and the works of our hands, it will not be us that they see but it will be the Light of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

For we do not preach ourselves but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your bond-servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.
2 Corinthians 4:5-6

Here’s another thing about light… it doesn’t matter how bright the light… light breaks the darkness.

Here’s the bottom line… it doesn’t matter how dark your darkness… the very moment you turn to the Light you can see… the question is not whether or not you can find the Light… but will you indeed come to the Light.

This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God. 

John 3:19-21

Light is the fastest thing in the universe… It reaches us across vast distances. It reveals the history of the cosmos. Nothing can go faster than the speed of light.

Light speed is the fundamental linchpin of the universe, the very cornerstone on which the universe is built, it is king in the cosmos. It is instantaneous to us. It is infinite to us.

So let’s look at this in light of the Phos…

Jesus is the fastest thing in the universe. He reaches us across vast distances. He reveals to us the history of the cosmos. Nothing is faster than Him, He speaks and it happens, He wills and it is.

Jesus is the fundamental linchpin of the universe. He is in fact the very cornerstone on which it was built, for from Him and through Him, and to Him are all things. He is the King in the cosmos, for He is the Kings of all kings. He is instantaneous to us, the moment we call, the moment we turn, He is there. Jesus is infinite to us. We can study Him for all eternity and still never grasp all of who He is…

October Truth

 

I don’t usually blog on Sundays… so today we will close out our study/focus on Psalm 101 and our October Song with Psalm 101:7-8

 

He who practices deceit shall not dwell within my house;
He who speaks falsehood shall not maintain his position before me.
Every morning I will destroy all the wicked of the land,
So as to cut off from the city of the Lord all those who do iniquity.

Psalm 101:7-8

Let’s first look at Psalm 101:7, 

He who practices deceit shall not dwell within my house;
He who speaks falsehood shall not maintain his position before me.

Now compare this with Revelation 21: 23-27 

And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. In the daytime (for there will be no night there) its gates will never be closed; and they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it; and nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it…

There will be no liars, no one who practices falsehood, in the house of God… so we should not tolerate it in ourselves. We live in a day where liars are brushed off or laughed off, but to God lying and falsehood is no laughing matter. He expects our yes to be a yes and our no to be a no. We are not to make stuff up to get our way…  and we are not to speak falsehood… We need to be very careful to make sure that the words that come out of our mouths are truth and that they are reliable. When we catch a lie or falsehood coming out of our mouths, we need to go boldly before the throne of grace and seek the mercy of our God. We are to be people of truth if we represent the Truth.

We should not tolerate lies in ourselves and we should not tolerate it in our homes by others…  Are there things that you lie about? To others? To yourself? To God?

Take it to Him now… don’t wait. You will not maintain your position before Him if you choose to remain in the practice of deceit and the speaking of falsehood. Precious one, He will deal with you… be sure your sins will find you out and your lies will entangle and trap you and trip you and the consequences of them will bring you to your knees. It is so much better if you justt choose to go there now on your own.

Now as we look at Psalm 101:8

Every morning I will destroy all the wicked of the land,
So as to cut off from the city of the Lord all those who do iniquity.

I am in the middle of a study in Ezekiel so as I read this verse I immediately went to Ezekiel 9

The Lord said to him, “Go through the midst of the city, even through the midst of Jerusalem, and put a mark on the foreheads of the men who sigh and groan over all the abominations which are being committed in its midst.” But to the others He said in my hearing, “Go through the city after him and strike; do not let your eye have pity and do not spare. Utterly slay old men, young men, maidens, little children, and women, but do not touch any man on whom is the mark; and you shall start from My sanctuary.” So they started with the elders who were before the temple. 

God was not playing with Israel and He is not playing with us…

So every morning when you awake you are to be ready to destroy every wicked way in you… Every morning be aware that you could fail today if you are not ready, prepared, blameless, living in integrity, walking in truth…

Every morning let your feet hit the floor and place on them the gospel of peace. Stand up out of the bed and gird your loins with truth, and slip into your breastplate of righteousness, cover your bed head with the helmet of salvation, slide on that shield of faith,  and take hold of the sword of the Spirit…

Every morning get ready to stand. Stand firm. Get ready to stand and get ready to slay…

Walk through the land of your daily life and destroy the wicked that is among you and cut off all that does iniquity…

What is in your daily life that God would never allow to take place under His roof?

October is the eighth month and Octo means eight. It was on the eighth day that God said be circumcised. Circumcision is the removal of the flesh…

Let us spend the remainder of this month focused on the removing of the flesh from our lives.

Beware of the dogs, beware of the evil workers,

beware of the false circumcision; for we are the true circumcision,

who worship in the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus

and put no confidence in the flesh, 

although I myself might have confidence even in the flesh.

If anyone else has a mind to put confidence in the flesh, I far more: 

circumcised the eighth day, of the nation of Israel,

of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews;

as to the Law, a Pharisee; as to zeal, a persecutor of the church;

as to the righteousness which is in the Law, found blameless.

But whatever things were gain to me,

those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 

More than that, I count all things to be loss 

in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, 

for whom I have suffered the loss of all things,

and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ,…

Philippians 3:2-8

October Wisdom

As we move past Psalm 101:5 and our October Accusers we begin today with Psalm 101:6

My eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me;
He who walks in a blameless way is the one who will minister to me.

Psalm 101:6

Who do you choose to “dwell” with? Who do you choose to abide with you? What type of person do you choose to associate with in your spare time?

Are they the faithful in the land?

Do you have faithful people in your life?

The word faithful in this verse in the Hebrew is ‘aman and it means to support, confirm, be faithful, uphold, nourish, foster-father or foster-mother, nurse, pillars, supporters of the door, to be established, make firm, sure, lasting, verified, reliable, etc… 

Do you purposely choose to surround yourself with well established, reliable, and sure people who will love you as they would love their own children?

Or is your crowd full of wishy-washy personalities who are fickle and unreliable? Do they change their minds and friends and plans with the wind and whatever is the latest and appearing the greatest new idea? Do they float in and out of church and lives? Do their standards change according to who they are with and where they are at. Do they stand on sand?

We must be purposeful about who we choose to dwell with. We must be purposeful in choosing our friends and most definitely in choosing our spouses.

Are your eyes on the faithful of the land?

Putting yourself in good company is one of the wisest moves any believer can make.

 Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.”

1 Corinthians 15:33

Bad company corrupts good morals and bad counseling ruins lives.

So the next question is, who do you take advise from? Who ministers to you? Are they blameless? Do they live a life of integrity? Sadly just because someone professes to be a christian or even leads a church as pastor… if they do not live blameless lives and walk in the integrity of their heart in their own house they need not be one who ministers to you.

Do you allow those to minister to you, to help you with problems, to offer you advise who never open the Word of God or even reference the Word in any way?

Her priests have done violence to My law and have profaned My holy things;

they have made no distinction between the holy and the profane,

and they have not taught the difference between the unclean and the clean;

and they hide their eyes from My sabbaths,

and I am profaned among them.

Her princes within her are like wolves tearing the prey,

by shedding blood and destroying lives in order to get dishonest gain. 

Her prophets have smeared whitewash for them, 

seeing false visions and divining lies for them,

saying, ‘Thus says the Lord God,’ when the Lord has not spoken.

Ezekiel 22:26-28

 

I can’t tell you the sad stories I have read and heard from those who received advice from a “pastor” or a “christian” that was completely out of line of Scripture and now the ones paying the price are the ones who listened to them. I sit and shake my head in utter frustration at those who have chosen to listen to the words of those in ungodly lifestyles while ignoring the advise of those who are seeking God daily.

We must be so very careful about who we receive instruction from…

I was speaking with an older gentlemen one day several years ago. His wife had bought some Mary Kay from me and he had came to pick it up. During our conversation we of course got on church… and he said to mewell, I think our pastor’s a crook but boy he sure can preach!”

I can’t think of many statements that make me cringe more than that… and it makes me cringe because this man had no shame, and didn’t check up, and didn’t see anything at all wrong with what he said… he thought it was quite funny. And what’s worse this type of thing is said all the time…

“Oh yeh he can’t keep his hands off the perty one’s but he sure can preach!” 

Yeh, I heard he used to beat his wife up pretty regular, but he should could preach!

Yeh, he’ll cuss you like a dog on the softball field, but he sure can preach!” 

Who dwells with you?

Who ministers to you?

Are there things and people in your life that you need to be walking away from?

 

 

 

 

October Accusers

Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, him I will destroy;
No one who has a haughty look and an arrogant heart will I endure.

Psalm 101.5

October 5th brings me to Psalm 101:5

Are you still singing the October Song and dancing the October Waltz. Are you still focusing on October Worth and cleansing your October Heart. Are you letting the verse by verse of this Psalm resonate…

If we are to be able to sing of the lovingkindness and justice of our God and walk with integrity in our house and not put anything worthless before our eyes and if we are to have a heart free of perversion and if we are to know no evil then we must remember Psalm 101:5.

What does it mean to secretly slander your neighbor but to gossip about them behind their back…

Has there ever been more greater damage done than by those who accuse someone of evil when the one they accuse is not there to defend themselves? That’s what slander is… it is to accuse.

The two latest I have seen that all will most likely know about:

1) Carrie Underwood and her kiss to a 12 year old boy: Oh my did the “christian” tongues wag over this! It was quite sad the way people jumped to accuse this woman of such evil and they slandered her without even having seen the act.

2) President Oboma and Mitt Romney and Big Bird: President Obama had an opportunity to address Mitt Romney’s comment about Big Bird there in Mitt’s presence, but instead he takes it to the campaign trail, takes it out of context, and slanders him when he is not there to defend himself… as did many others in the media. 

God says that he will destroy him who slanders his neighbor. He will silence the accuser. When we are the accuser, the slanderer, it is not God that we are imitating…

 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying,

“Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God

and the authority of His Christ have come,

for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down,

he who accuses them before our God day and night.

Revelation 12:10  

We better be very careful when we begin to use our tongue to decide the motive of a persons actions. God is going to cast Satan down for his accusations against His people… please don’t let us think we would receive any less.

There are twelve references to accusers in the NASB… Job was accused, David was accused, Jesus was accused… so if you are the one being accused, my friend, you are in good company! And you can trust that eventually all your accusers will be silenced.

and keep a good conscience so that in the thing in which you are slandered,

those who revile your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame.

1 Peter 3:16

You see, if you are taking care of Psalm 101:1-4, then you will be keeping a good conscience before God and if you know that you are good with God… then what can man do to you?

Those who secretly slander, those who accuse, they do so with a haughty look and an arrogant heart.

If you are honest with yourself you know the difference in your attitude when you have become the accuser and not the concerned.

It is visible in you and it is visible in others… You can see it as you walk through the halls in any American school, from Elementary to High School, and sadly you can see it in corners of every American church, and most definitely from the platforms from most every political podium. You can easily recognize the haughty eyes when you truly choose to see.

You know when the person who approaches you is speaking out of an arrogant heart or whether they are speaking out of frustration…

You know, and you know that you know.

But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother

shall be guilty before the court;

and whoever says to his brother, ‘You good-for-nothing,’

shall be guilty before the supreme court;

and whoever says, ‘You fool,’

shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.

Matthew 5:22

So what you should do. If you are the accuser, the slanderer… repent. Repent before God, repent before the one you slandered to, and repent to the one you slandered. Once words leave your mouth they will produce a result… but God can take what you intended for evil and use it for good if you give it to Him.

Therefore if you are presenting your offering at the altar,

and there remember that your brother has something against you, 

leave your offering there before the altar and go;

first be reconciled to your brother,

and then come and present your offering.

Matthew 5:23-24

We live in a world that is evil enough as it is. It’s full of accusers and slanderers and gossips. There are plenty who live to tear down another to make themselves appear better. We have a world full of people who do deeds of darkness let us not waste our words and energy trying to create evil out of  good intentions… Let us pursue peace, and humility, and seek to build others up not tear them down.

To quote Ravi Zacharias, “with boldness but with love take your stand

Face to face… heart to heart… believe me I understand the need to “vent” and I have those around me that I know I can “vent” to but venting is not accusing… it is not slandering… venting comes out of one’s own frustrations and it is an attempt at working through a personal hurt in order to heal and move on and not let the hurt or frustration take root within you (Hebrews 12:15, James 5:16)… but it still must be done in confidence because there are those who will take your “vent” and use it to slander and accuse.

Various Trials

In this you greatly rejoice,

even though now for a little while, if necessary,

you have been distressed by various trials, 

so that the proof of your faith, 

being more precious than gold which is perishable, 

even though tested by fire, 

may be found to result in praise and glory and honor

at the revelation of Jesus Christ 

1 Peter 1:6-7

Trials come in various forms. 

The word various comes from an interesting Greek term, poikolos, which means “variegated” or “many colored.” We also get the term “polka dot” from it. 

Trials come in a variety of forms and colors. They are different, just as we are different. Something that would hardly affect you might knock the slats out from under me—and vice versa. But God offers special grace to match every shade of sorrow. . . .

This variety of trials is like different temperature settings on God’s furnace. The settings are adjusted to burn off our dross, to temper us or soften us according to what meets our highest need. 

It is in God’s refining fire that the authenticity of our faith is revealed. And the purpose of these fiery ordeals is that we may come forth as purified gold, a shining likeness of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.

I read this and immediately my mind went to Joseph. Joseph received a coat from his father…

 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his sons,

because he was the son of his old age;

and he made him a varicolored tunic.

Genesis 37:3

This coat was a coat of various colors… I have always been taught and heard others teach about this coat was so special because it was like no one else’s… it was a coat for the rich, the special, the royal…

Maybe we are teaching and being taught all wrong.

Maybe this coat given to Joseph by his father was to point to the various trials that Joseph would endure to refine him. Maybe this coat was a message from his Heavenly Father to say, Joseph I love you… and I have great plans for you… but first you must face many trials that I might get you ready to accomplish My purpose. You must learn to trust Me and live by the faith in the promises that I have given you even though you do not see Me or hear from Me.

Joseph received the coat of many colors before he received the visions from God that revealed his brothers bowing down to him. I don’t believe this was an accident… everything is in order of God’s sovereignty.

First know that I love you. You are my child.

Second know that various trials will come, but every trial has a purpose.

Third if you trust Me, if you persevere through the trials, remembering that I love you, then you will obtain the promise.

and though you have not seen Him, you love Him,

and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him,

you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 

obtaining as the outcome of your faith

the salvation of your souls.

1 Peter 1:8-9

Precious one… I don’t know what you are going through. I don’t know what sufferings you have faced, are facing, or will face in the future… but I do know that God loves you… is and will be with you… and He alone is big enough to carry you. No matter how great the hurt, His grace is greater. No matter how raw the pain, His balm is soothing. No matter how deep the degradation, His justice will redeem it. No matter how often the injury returns to haunt, His authority will override it. No matter how great the damage to the mind, body, and soul, His touch will restore it. No matter the reason behind it, His mercy can handle it.

Names of God: Xulon Zoe

So far in our study of the names of Christ we have looked at Huios and Eschatos Adam. Today we are going to look at a few names of Christ . Our main focus will be on one name, but there are two names that we will look at that relate to our focus name.

We find our name of Christ today in the book of Revelation…

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. 

To him who overcomes,

I will grant to eat of the tree of life which is in the Paradise of God

Revelation 2:7

Now last week as we looked at Eschatos Adam I used the illustration of the family tree… and here’s the thing our Jesus is indeed the Tree of Life, the Xulon Zoe. We will dig a little deeper into Xulon Zoe later in this post.

Now there are two things that help make a tree a tree.  For one a tree has branches…

  In that day the Branch of the Lord will be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth will be the pride and the adornment of the survivors of Israel. It will come about that he who is left in Zion and remains in Jerusalem will be called holy—everyone who is recorded for life in Jerusalem. (Isaiah 4:2-3)

Then say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, “Behold, a man whose name is Branch, for He will branch out from where He is; and He will build the temple of the Lord. (Zechariah 6:12)

Jesus is our Xulon Zoe and  He is our Tsemach, our Branch, He is the One who reaches out from where He is and builds the temple of the Lord.

Now another thing that makes a tree a tree is that it has roots. You see not only is He our Xulon Zoe and our Tsemach, He is also our Rhiza.

and one of the elders said to me, “Stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals.” (Revelation 5:5) 

“I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.” Revelation 22:16

Here’s the awesome thing about our Jesus,: He is the whole tree! He is the Branch and He is the Root. He is not just the descendant of David, He is also the root of him. He is the Tree of Life. He is the One who builds the temple of the Lord.

Now there was a descendant of David who built a temple to the Lord long ago. His name was Solomon. We read in 1 Kings 6 how Solomon also used branches and trees to build this temple. These were trees from this earth. These were trees that gave their life to build the temple. They were cut down and used to lay the foundations and build the walls and all the furniture and the altars and all else that was in the temple. These trees were strong, but they were not eternal. They were of this earth and this temple was destroyed.

The temple built by the Branch from the Tree of Life however will never be destroyed…

With this in mind lets dig a little deeper into Xulon Zoe

Xulon  is Greek for tree, but this tree is not just any tree, this word xulon in Revelation 2:7 means: wood, that which is made of wood, as a beam from which any one is suspended, a gibbet, a cross, a log or timber with holes in which the feet, hands, neck of prisoners were inserted and fastened with thongs, a fetter, or shackle for the feet

Zoe is Greek for life, and this word zoe in Revelation 2:7 means: life, the state of one who is possessed of vitality or is animate, every living soul, of the absolute fullness of life

You see my friend the Tree of Life is the Cross of Christ

You see this son of David, the Root of David, this Branch, this Tree of Life, our Christ also gave His life to build a temple of the Lord. He however did not cut another down, but He Himself was cut down. This Tree of Life was cut down and laid, but He has risen… and the Branch of this Tree just keeps going out from where He is and building the temple of the Lord. And where is this temple? Who is this temple?

Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
(1 Corinthians 3:16)

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?
(1 Corinthians 6:20)

The temple that is built from Xulon Zoe can never be destroyed… not even the gates of hell can prevail against it.

 

October Heart

Today is October 4th and so today I will focus on Psalm 101:4

 

A perverse heart shall depart from me;

I will know no evil.

Psalm 101:4

A perverse heart shall depart from me… now for something to depart from you it had to first be with you.

And He was saying, “That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness. All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man.” (Mark 7:20-23)

Perverse in this verse is `iqqesh and it means twisted, distorted, crooked, perverse, perverted. 

A perverse heart takes God’s truth and twists it and distorts it and makes it crooked.

But Saul, who was also known as Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fixed his gaze on him, and said, “You who are full of all deceit and fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to make crooked the straight ways of the Lord? Acts 13:9-10

This has been the problem since the beginning…

Satan was the first to pervert it and he has been helping man do it since the fall. If we look at the bottom line there is always only one reason to pervert the truth of God… selfish gain. It was the reason Satan did it… it’s the reason man does it. It’s the reason men do it from the pulpit, it’s the reason politicians do it from the podium… to get their own way, to be their own god, to get people to follow them and do their will… not God’s.

‘Come now and hear what the message is which comes forth from the Lord.’ They come to you as people come, and sit before you as My people and hear your words, but they do not do them, for they do the lustful desires expressed by their mouth, and their heart goes after their gain. (Ezekiel 33:30-31)

Our God calls out to us to be saved from this perverse generation… He desperately wants us to walk in His truth.

For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.” And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation!” So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls. (Acts 2:39-41)

I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them. Therefore be on the alert, remembering that night and day for a period of three years I did not cease to admonish each one with tears. (Acts 20:29-31)

God has called out to us through His law, through His prophets, and through His Son to give us the truth, so that this perverse heart of ours might depart from us. He had made the way for a new heart to be given us… a heart that desires to walk the straight and clear path to our God.

Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances. (Ezekiel 36:26-27)

In the NASB the phrase “know that I am the LORD” is used seventy-seven times. The phrase “know Me” is used sixteen times. The phrase “the name of the LORD” is used one hundred and four times.

Do you think God wants you to know Him?

God wants you to know HIM. He wants you to know Him with all your heart, with all your mind, with all your soul. He wants your spirit to be one with His Spirit. He want you to know Him and all that He is. All His majesty. All His glory. All His grace. All His love. All His ways.

He does not want you to know evil.

The word know in this verse is yada and it means to know, to learn to know, to know by experience, to be acquainted with, to be skillful in, to be or become known, to make known…

The perverse heart gets to know evil. The perverse heart makes evil known. The perverse heart knows evil by experience and it is well acquainted with it.

God wants you to be well acquainted with Him. He wants you to make Him known. He wants you to know Him by experience. He wants you to learn to know Him more. He wants you to grow in knowledge of Him every minute of every day…

He wants you to prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain. (Philippians 2:14-16)

We live in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation… but it does not have to live in us.

Now I urge you, brethren, keep your eye on those who cause dissensions and hindrances contrary to the teaching which you learned, and turn away from them. For such men are slaves, not of our Lord Christ but of their own appetites; and by their smooth and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting. For the report of your obedience has reached to all; therefore I am rejoicing over you, but I want you to be wise in what is good and innocent in what is evil. The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.

The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you. (Romans 16:17-20)

October Worth

 

October 3rd brings me to the third verse of Psalm 101…

I will set no worthless thing before my eyes;
I hate the work of those who fall away;
It shall not fasten its grip on me.

Psalm 101:3

What causes us to fall away?

When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes,… Genesis 3:6

“The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! Matthew 6:22-23

What do you choose to put before your eyes?

The word eyes here in Psalm 101:3 is more than just the two eyes in the front of your face.. this word includes your spiritual and mental faculties. What do you pump into your mind and your spirit? Have you really stopped and been honest with yourself and examined the connection with what you choose to watch and hear with your thoughts and actions?

Jesus came to open blind eyes so that we might see sin for what it is… and turn from it, not park our butts down in front of it and be entertained with it and say “well I know it is wrong and am aware of it and I won’t do that so it’s okay for me to be a sideline participant.”

Those on the rocky soil are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no firm root; they believe for a while, and in time of temptation fall away. Luke 8:13

But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons… 1 Timothy 4:1

I find it sad when we spend more time paying attention to deceitful spirits and the doctrines of demons than we do the Word of God and then we wonder why we can’t crucify our flesh and live holy lives pleasing to God… My friend what temptation are you struggling with today? What do you put before your eyes and what do you pour into your ears daily?

Do you even care that you sin?

The word fall in Psalm 101:3 means swerver, rebel, revolter, deeds that swerve…

When I was sixteen I had a few vehicle accidents… the majority of those wrecks came as I was rebelling against the posted law and then swerved…  I knew the law… but ignored it… and I crashed. Our ignoring and rebelling against the Law of God and the Grace and Truth revealed to us in His Son will have the same results. Eventually our rebellion will become evident we will attempt to swerve to miss the consequences of it and we will crash and our lives will be wrecked.

How thankful I am for the jaws of life that are in the hands my Christ…

When I wholly surrendered to my Savior in December 2001 there were things I just could not physically stomach to pass through my eyes and ears… it physically made me sick and ripped at my heart and grieved my spirit. Those same things still do today… my heart has grown more tender as I walk closer to my Christ and go deeper in His Word.

Sin separates me from Him… and I like being as close to Him as I possibly can.

Psalm 101:3  goes on to say “I hate the work of those who fall away…”. Notice he says I hate the work…  he does not say he hates the those.

My husband laughs at me because he has caught my “head shake“. Apparently every time I see the work of those who fall away, or see the deceitful spirits and the doctrines of demons and the things that this world just throws before our eyes and shoves in our ears before we even have an opportunity to run away I frustratedly shake my head. I have to close my lips tight and breathe deep because the holy rage is building up within me and I want to erupt at what I see and hear… but I shake my head and breath.

Here is what my head shake says… “It shall not fasten its grip on me

I am shaking it off like the dust from my feet…

I will take no part in it…

I will not knowingly support it or encourage it. I will not eat at Hardees because of their ads. I will not go to certain movies or listen to certain groups because of their content. I will not shop at certain stores because of the trash they want my children to wear. I will not get sucked into certain books because of the files they will take up in my mind that belong to the Spirit for the storage of God’s Word.

There is much in this world that I can not control… but what I can I will… for the glory of my God and for the love of my Jesus.

My Jesus said I was worth His death… so my Jesus is worth my life.

October Waltz

I still am singing my October song.

I still am praising Him for His lovingkindness and justice. Today I continue my song with a waltz added in as I sing…

I will give heed to the blameless way.
When will You come to me?
I will walk within my house in the integrity of my heart.

Psalm 101:2

Our October song begins with praise but our praise songs to God are empty and void of any meaning if we ignore the walk, if we ignore the waltz.

We sit at the feet of our Instructor and we listen as He teaches us the steps… 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, 1…2…3 and we watch His waltz and we see that it is flawless, beautiful, it is blameless.

Blameless in Psalm 101:2 is tamiym and it means complete, whole, entire, sound, unimpaired, having integrity, entirely in accord with truth and fact.

If we are to dance with this Instructor then we must take heed of His steps and follow His feet, for His steps are the truth and fact of the dance… He leads, we are led.

So we sit and listen to Him teach and watch His flowing movements of grace and like a young lady at her first party we sit quietly and watch the One who has caught our eye and our heart yearns for Him to come to us and ask us to join Him in the dance. We smile shyly and look away when His eyes catch ours because we fear rejection because we feel so unworthy to dance with Him,  yet we want to stand up like a kindergarten girl with our arm flailing in the air “PICK ME!”

Everyone wants to dance with the Instructor… with the One who knows exactly what to do and when to do it… but will you be so bold as to run into His arms when He looks your way… The waltz must have one with strong and sure arms to command the dance and there are no arms stronger or surer.

But there is more to the waltz with the Instructor… when He picks you and He takes you in His embrace and then you go out in His knowledge of the dance into your own house… into the world… will you practice by heeding His blameless steps? When you have danced with the Instructor, when you have learned from His steps… He expects you to continue in His teachings, to dance the way He taught you to dance. To take to heart His lessons with integrity.

Will you practice your waltz within your house in the integrity of your heart?

Will you take your son, your daughter, your husband, your wife in your unsteady embrace and practice the steps with them? Will you today extend your arms and ready your feet and take a waltz through your house? Will you sing your October song and sing of His lovingkindness and justice and praise Him as you dance this waltz in the life you have been given…

Our October song of praise must be given as we are surrendered into the arms of the One who who holds us close to His body and we must let Him lead our October waltz and guide our steps. When we are held close in His body then the continuous turns and rise and falls of our dance are seen by those watching to be taken with steps of grace and elegance and they will appear effortless as we glide in the strong knowing arms of our God.

Dear one let us never forget that God has made it quite clear that His body is the church…

so that He might sanctify her,

having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 

that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory,

having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing;

but that she would be holy and blameless

Ephesians 5:26-27

Psalm 101

Today is October 1st. The 10th month, the 1st day. So I turned to Psalm 101 this morning…

My family closed out the month of September in a blur… church Sunday morning with a lesson on Job and Rev 16:1-11, then a birthday party, a church picnic, and a funeral visitation. In one day we celebrated God’s sovereignty in the midst of suffering and the midst of judgment and the midst of life and death… I am thankful that I know that He is sovereign and that I am learning little by little exactly what that means… because it really is hard to grasp a true hold on most of the time. It’s one of those things like eternity… to think on it overwhelms every part of you and you just have to shake your head in surrender and bow your knee in trust.

So this morning, this month, Psalm 101 is my song. My October song. There are eight verses in this Psalm… on the eighth day Abraham was commanded to circumcise his Isaac… the eighth day the sign of the covenant was to be administered. On the seventh day God rested… and at the seventh bowl God says He is finished… It is done. So the eighth is the day when all that is flesh and unclean is cut away… and all that remains is the promise of His coming.

So these first eight days of October… I am focusing on one verse a day of my October song… join me?
