…or if a man touches any teeming things by which he is made unclean, or any man by whom he is made unclean, whatever his uncleanness; a person who touches any such shall be unclean until evening, and shall not eat of the holy gifts unless he has bathed his body in water. But when the sun sets, he will be clean, and afterward he shall eat of the holy gifts, for it is his food.
Leviticus 22:5-7
For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said,“This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly.
1 Corinthians 11:23-29
We are not to partake of this precious meal unless we are first clean. We are to examine ourselves and see if their is any wicked way in us… before we eat of this holy gift. When we eat of this we are remembering Him… and His cross… His death… that He died for us… because of our sin. He is the Holy Gift. Therefore we need to be clean before we come to eat…
How do we get clean…
But the Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and of the platter; but inside of you, you are full of robbery and wickedness.
Luke 11:39
We clean the outside of the cup. We can eat clean foods and take clean showers and make the outside and even the inside of our bodies pretty clean and healthy… but as for our inner man… our soul… our heart… we are helpless. We have not enough clorox, ajax, or ex-lax to clean the filth of the inner you.
Only Jesus can do that… and He begins it with the scrubbing by His Word…
Jesus said to him, He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean…
John 13:10
You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.
John 15:3
He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.
Ephesians 5:26-27
how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Hebrews 9:14
When by the Word of God, we were drawn to the Word of God, and through the Word of God we were cleansed… then we are clean. The blood of the Word of God made flesh has cleaned our inner being…
“What God has cleansed, no longer consider unholy.” Acts 10:15
Jesus makes us clean, so that we might partake of the Holy Gift… but if we want to continue to eat of the holy gifts in remembrance of the Holy Gift, then we must keep clean… we must wash our feet… because in this life as we go… our feet get dirty and we need to clean them before we sit down to eat.
We can do this without fear… and we can do this as often as we need to because God has supplied us with the promises that we are His. He has promised that He will not leave us or forsake us… He will forgive us and cleanse us every time we come to Him…
Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God
2 Corinthians 7:1
and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful;
Hebrews 10:21-23
But precious one… He also is not playing when He tells you that it is important that you DO COME… to try to eat of the holy gifts while still unclean is to eat condemnation and judgment on yourself… He has the water… He will even get down on His knees before you to reach you… He has done it all… has it all ready…
He wants you to eat of this Holy Gift, but you must be clean to partake of Him and to live… to really live you must have Him… because He is your food. You can try to fill your stomach with other foods… but they are all fake foods… they all will lead only to death… only eating of Christ will lead to life.
For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink.
John 6:55
